Analysis of land cover change and landscape fragmentation between 2016 and 2025 using Sentinel-2 satellite imagery and machine learning models in three areas of the Antalya coast representing different tourism development models, and generation of future projections for 2030–2035.
On Mediterranean coasts, tourism does not merely add new buildings to the shoreline; it fundamentally transforms the structure of the natural landscape. This project aimed to reveal how tourism-driven land transformation in the coastal areas of Antalya has evolved over time and where it may lead if current trends continue. By comparatively examining three areas representing different tourism development models, the study provides coastal planning and environmental impact assessment processes with a spatially detailed information base that goes beyond area statistics.
