Determining burn severity in the area affected by the 2021 Manavgat wildfire and monitoring post-fire vegetation recovery over multiple years using Sentinel-2 satellite imagery processed in Google Earth Engine with machine learning-based cloud masking; and assessing the relationship between the recovery process and climatic conditions.
Driven by climate change, wildfires in the Mediterranean Basin are becoming more frequent and severe, making long-term monitoring of post-fire ecosystem recovery essential. Assessments of the 2021 Manavgat wildfire, one of the largest in Türkiye's recent history, have largely been limited to single-date comparisons of pre- and post-fire conditions. This project aimed to reveal how vegetation in the burned areas has recovered over the years and to examine whether this process depends not only on burn severity but also on post-fire climatic conditions. The study provides a scientific basis for post-fire rehabilitation and forest management efforts.
